About

Jim Penny was born in Illinois in 1964 and has practiced law since 1993. He graduated from DePaul University, Chicago, IL, in 1987, and received a Bachelor’s Degree with High Honors; majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology. He is grateful for his experience at DePaul for many reasons but most of all, because it was where he met the love of his life, Julie.  Jim went on to attend Loyola University College of Law in Chicago, graduating with a law degree in 1993.  After graduation, Jim and Julie packed up their belongings and headed west, to Tucson.

Since arriving in Tucson, Jim practice has focused on injury and wrongful death.  Over the years, he has represented people injured by others, including people injured in automobile collisions, truck collisions, motorcycle collisions, medical malpractice, hospital negligence, bicycle collisions, assaults, and defective products.  The State Bar of Arizona’s Board of Legal Specialization has designated Jim as a Certified Specialist in Injury and Wrongful Death since 2008.

Over the years, Jim has served the legal profession with his time.  He has served as President of the Pima County Bar Association, served on the State Bar of Arizona’s Board of Governors, served on the board of directors of the Arizona Trial Lawyers Association (now known as Arizona Association for Justice), and served as chair of the Client Protection Fund.

Jim has also lectured on such topics as Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Insurance Law.  He also appeared on a Master’s Panel and spoke on automobile and general liability insurance, before the Arizona Trial Lawyers Association and taught seminars for other lawyers on topics, including.

Jim and Julie give back to Tucson through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson and The Sanctuary Project, a dog rescue organization through which they have been blessed with three, terrific dogs.  Jim also volunteers with Southern Arizona Legal Aid.  He was honored as Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney of the Month for March, 2002.  In 2007, he was selected as one of the Top 50 Pro Bono Attorneys.
